Women’s specific bikes are a hotly debated topic in the cycling world. Do women really need specific frames? Can women ride bikes that are ‘made for men’? What is a women’s bike anyway? Well, Manon received a messaged on Instagram asking if we could make a video detailing the key differences between men’s and women’s bikes and whether or not women really need them – so here’s everything you needed to know about women’s specific bikes.

I'm also short so…..yeah ahahaha. I'm using a bianchi roadbike with a 20 inch tire, good in places where theres a bit more pedestrian with you in the road.
With my men's bike, with a heavy and high load on the rear rack (like when grocery shopping), I can't swing my leg around to get on and with the high crossbar stepping through it is difficult. I have to look for a high curb to use as a step. If I tilt the bike with a heavy load, the front wheel flips up and the bike falls on its side.
I got a women's bike with a lower sloping crossbar, and I can easily step through it, so that solved the grocery hauling problem. Nowadays I enjoy riding it more than the men's bike because it's just easier to get on and off.
Now I've got to get some tape or something to cover up this pink stuff.
As a 65 year old man, I have had to go to a step through frame. With arthritis in my right hip and knee, I cannot swing my leg over. It is a large but it is the old women’s bike style. I can get on and off safely. I have to cycle because it reduces my pain and gives me more mobility. I like your video how it informs about good fit.
I’m a male and I just started using women’s bike. I find it more comfortable for my small frame!
Really like my new Liv AR2 in XS. Previously had Pinarello and Specialized small, not interested in tge reach anymore. Will keep Specialized and change to shorter raised stem for the trainer.
I’m enjoying the bike so far https://www.youtube.com/post/UgkxMesz3KOGEmwmvyKQfLfrRSUXLFzfVHZA My only real complaints are the brakes and the pedals. I feel like a bike designed for bigger people should have much larger pedals and more heavy duty brakes. I’ve only gotten two really good rides out of it, minimal downhill action, and the brakes feel like they’re already going out. A larger person has more momentum, so I think this wasn’t thought through very well. Also, I wear size 13-14 wide shoes. My feet cramp up on these pedals that are clearly made for smaller feet. Since I’m not a pro rider (and I don’t think many are who purchase this bike) I don’t think that the straps on the pedal are necessary at all. None of this takes away from the enjoyment I get from riding, however. I’ll just head to a bike shop to improve on a few things.
Yes exactly in bikes no men n women please. My daughter brought a black hyperbike as she fell in love for that particular bike. But people say it’s for men which hurts her n may be many girls n boys too go through that situation. So plz change this n let people ride the bike they love.
What i really don't get is the fact, that there are almost none (save Liv) manufactures out there who still produce Frames for people under 157cm.
Most of the worlds women are 157cm and smaller, and right now there are almost no bikes those women can ride.
I looked almost 2 month for a good road bike for my wife, and in the end we hadn't got a choice. The only fitting non custom adult aluminium bike was the Liv Avail AR…
Why did almost every other maker ditched their women specific bikes. Sometimes it is not only about geometry, but simply about size…
She is the prettiest … how tall is she?
Life changing experience
Prettiest women in GCN!!!
Me a guy watching a video about women bikes
One of my bikes is a new 130th Anniversary Edition Bianchi Intenso Dama Bianca 47cm frame refitted to meet my sizing needs.
I normally ride either a 52, 53, or 56cm frame bicycle. Of those, the Bianchi is a really amazing quick, snappy, twitchy fast mode of transportation. Beautiful pretty bike. I am 5'6" and 135# and heavily involved in the local and national cycling communities. I am leading escort cyclist for both the United States Air Force Marathon and Coast Guard Marathon. I am also on 2 major cycling teams.
How many cm is a large
Paint mens bike pink, boom. Job done
Thanks for making this video. We need more video's tackling gender getting in the way of people making the right choices. Most women appear to be more comfortable than most men in adopting things marketed to the other gender – I should know, being a CIS man and having an adversion to buying anything marketed to females. My mentality does not make sense, but it's good to make people like me (of any gender) think about this issue.
What if you are wearing a skirt?
I'm 4'10-4'11 and struggling to find an entry level road bike. I'll be saving up to $3,000 and see what I can buy from there.
I like the shorter top tube and narrower bars of "Women Specific Design" frames as I have three (S4-5/L1) fused vertebrae and the length of the top tube / reach of traditional "men's" bikes is very uncomfortable to ride for me.
After some recent issues and reading articles from female endurance cyclists can we maybe have a video where we talk about the effect it has on our downstairs? I know it can be embarrassing to talk about but based on what I’m reading it’s not talked about enough the effects it can have on our bits.
She's so cute
Thanks Manon!
my parents offered to buy me a bike today with my money (they had borrowed money from me before that). I asked them to not but a pink bike like they did 5 years ago, my mom said "of course not, but we will be getting you a woman's bike". I do not want it, as soon as i told her I want a man's bike, she laughed at me. The woman one looks too delicate and doesn't seem to be a sport type. Now she's angry
Women’s bike frames are a savior for the jewels in cases you slip forward.
im 5'5 man and using a Womens bike
I had purchased a women's bike at one point. Still needed to change the crank, the stem, and the saddle. It was a fine bike, but I fit way better on Kona size 49 road bike.
Kona a (local Washington company with tons of mtn bike history) has always embraced inclusiveness and encouraged women to get into the sport of mtn biking… they don't make women's bikes. They just make bikes
My gf is around 5ft with longer legs in relation to her torso. She’s always stretched out pretty far. First time she tried a Liv we bought one.
Gender neutral nonsense destroying M & F cycling, so what happens to the difference in shoulder width. Our bodies are not the same and female cyclists will now lose out. Thats where Be Kind gets you x
I ride a woman’s bike. Had a specialise woman’s rock hopper and a men’s… it was the same but the woman’s had a better paint job
The seats are def diff, but if your covering with a gel pad or changing anyway. It’s the same
